The recognition results from recent back-to-back driving evaluations of 59 new vehicles at the annual AJAC Test Fest evaluation - the foundation of the Canadian Car of the Year Awards (CCOTY) program. Over 70 of Canada’s top automotive journalists judged this year’s competition, which aims to provide consumers with sound, comparative information on new vehicles. “We truly appreciate this vote of confidence from such a large body of Canada's automotive experts,” said Marc Comeau, GM of Canada's vice president, sales service and marketing. “GM’s goal is to provide customers with cars and trucks that offer leading designs and fuel-efficient technologies, with eye-catching style and an overall level of perceived quality typical of more expensive vehicles. This award tells us we're delivering on that goal.” The Chevrolet Silverado extends GM’s decades-long legacy of sales leadership in full-size pickups, with a segment-best combination of fuel efficiency and capability that has seen sales continue to climb since its Canadian launch. The Silverado’s leading platform supports a smoother ride and confident handling. A lineup of powerful small-block V-8 engines complements the stronger chassis to deliver the light-duty segment's highest-rated towing capacity (4,763 kg / 10,500 pounds) and horsepower (367 hp / 274 kW), with a maximum payload capacity of 980 kg (2,160 pounds). There are three cab styles - regular, extended and crew cab - and three cargo box lengths. The pickup is available in three trim levels: WT, LT and LTZ and is available in 2WD and 4WD. Chevrolet will up the ante again in 2008 with a Silverado hybrid pickup that will deliver up to 25% improved combined fuel economy. On sale later this year, it will be the first hybrid produced in Canada and will be built at GM’s Oshawa Truck Assembly Centre. Good Coaching Nurtures Optimal Growth and Development of Children and Youth
Oshawa (Ontario), November 28, 2007 –According to research highlights by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), good coaching nurtures optimal growth and development of children and fosters the joy of sports. To develop our coaches in Canada, General Motors of Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) provided 60 $2,000 grants for coach skill development.
List Attached
“Olympic dreams begin at the community club level and that is what GM’s Making Dreams Possible Program is all about” said Marc Comeau, GM of Canada’s vice-president of sales, service, and marketing. “With support from the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), these grants were designed to invest in coaches in communities across Canada. We believe that ongoing coach development at the grass roots level is the cornerstone to building our elite athletes of the future.”
“The CAC is pleased to be partners with GM through the Making Dreams Possible Program. In its first year, the program’s direct support of coach development touched over 5,000 coaches and nearly 70,000 athletes in 115 community clubs across the country. This program immediately impacts coach development and education and will ultimately benefit Canadian sport as more coaches are introduced to the National Coach Certification Program (NCCP),” commented Jean-Marie De Koninck, Chair, CAC Board of Directors.
“This grant will allow us to provide opportunities to expand the knowledge and experience base of our coaches so that they are better equipped to lead our young athletes as they pursue their dreams,” said Jean E. Pendziwol, Fundraising and Communications Coordinator for the Big Thunder Nordic Ski Club in Thunder Bay, Ontario. “The funding will help us to guide our youth towards athletic excellence and provide an environment where athletes grow as healthy, involved members of the community.”
Making Dreams Possible is a program developed by GM in cooperation with the Coaching Association of Canada, the governing body of Canada’s coaching education program and is designed to support coaches of Olympic and Paralympic Sports at the high performance and community levels.
Over the next three years, GM’s Making Dreams Possible program will provide a minimum of 100 grants of $2,000 each annually for coach development in local communities, and ten grants of $10,000 each annually to high performance athletes and their coaches. These grants will be used to fund special projects that develop the skills and abilities of elite and community level coaches.
Applications can be submitted by high performance athletes and their coaches for the elite grants and head coaches, technical directors or the president of local sports clubs can apply for the local sport club coaching awards. Application forms can be found through www.thedriveison.ca.
The next wave of local sport club and high performance applications closes on February 14th, 2008 with grants to be awarded in May.

New Saturn Vue Green Line Hybrid is Canadian
Price and Fuel Consumption Leader
Oshawa, Ontario (October 18, 2007) – GM Canada today announced pricing and fuel consumption ratings for the all-new 2008 Saturn Vue Green Line hybrid. On sale in November, the new Vue Green Line hybrid has a starting MSRP of just $30,790, making it the most affordable hybrid SUV on the market and more affordable than many competitor hybrid sedans.
The Vue Green Line hybrid has a segment-leading highway consumption rating of just 6.1 L/100kms. Together with a city rating of 8.2 L/100kms, it achieves an impressive combined rating of 7.3L/100 kms, it has better fuel economy than the CRV, RAV-4 and the Camry and Accord sedans.

The HHR SS was engineered to offer more than simply increased power. An all-new FE5 Sport suspension was developed and tuned at Germany’s famed Nürburgring racing circuit. It includes specific stabilizer bars, spring rates and damper tuning – all designed to complement the turbocharged powertrain.
Consequently, the HHR SS delivers a sports car-like maximum lateral grip of 0.86 g (with manual transmission). Braking is also enhanced with four-wheel discs with standard ABS. StabiliTrak electronically controlled stability control system is standard.
The HHR SS’s performance rubber meets the road via Michelin Pilot Sport MXM4 P225/45R18 tires mounted on 18-inch polished forged aluminum five-spoke wheels.

The 2008 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 Series pickup trucks have received the federal government's highest side-impact crash rating - five stars - making Silverado and Sierra the industry's only full-size pickups to earn this top rating.
Silverado and Sierra 1500 Series Regular Cab, Extended Cab and Crew Cab models all received the highest possible side-impact rating for models tested with and without available head curtain side-impact air bags. The Silverado and Sierra previously received the federal government's highest frontal crash test rating of five stars. Government star ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA's) New Car Assessment Program (www.safercar.gov).
"Customers continue to rank safety higher on their lists for new vehicle purchases and that helped us make safety before, during, and after a crash among our chief priorities when we redesigned the all-new Silverado and Sierra pickups for the 2007 model year," said Gary A. White, GM vice president and vehicle line executive for full-size trucks.
"The industry-leading safety attributes of these pickups add to their well-deserved and longstanding reputation for dependability and durability, the hallmarks of a great pickup truck."

Pricing Announced for the All-New 2008 Chevrolet Malibu
Oshawa, Ontario (September 26, 2007) – GM Canada announced today that the all-new 2008 Chevrolet Malibu LS, arriving at dealers in November, has a starting MSRP of just $22, 995. Other models range from the 1LT package starting at $24,895 to the top of the line LTZ model starting at $33,610. In addition, starting at just $26,995, a hybrid Malibu model will be offered featuring the most affordable hybrid system on the market.
“Malibu is built to be the best midsize car in the market and is loaded with standard features that many competitors don’t offer at any price,” said Marc Comeau, vice president of Sales, Service and Marketing for GM of Canada. “The design team focused on the attributes that mattered most to midsize car buyers. Malibu has great performance, fuel economy and refinement, packaged in a clean contemporary design that carries the new face of Chevrolet.”

Other four cylinder models will feature a four-speed transmission with overdrive.
The new Malibu’s longer wheelbase and four-wheel independent suspension combine to provide precise and responsive ride and handling characteristics. Malibu’s strong body and chassis structure serves as the foundation for an exceptionally safe vehicle and one of the segment’s quietest, more refined driving experiences.
A number of equipment packages also are available and include features such as power-adjustable pedals, premium seating, up level interiors; power equipment groups and a deluxe audio system with available XM Satellite Radio. As well, Malibu is offered with two-tone trim combinations, including Ebony and Brick, Cocoa and Cashmere and Titanium and Cashmere.

For Immediate Release
Lindsay and St. Catharines students first to see Friday Night,
a new, ‘striking and sobering’ show on impaired driving
MADD Canada and GM Canada to take show on cross country tour of high schools
Toronto, Ont. (September 6, 2007) - “Friday Night”, MADD Canada’s new multi-media assembly show which delivers its important drug and alcohol awareness message to 600,000 high school students annually, premiered simultaneously at two Ontario high schools as MADD Canada and presenting Sponsor General Motors of Canada kicked off a ten month, cross-country tour.
Margaret Miller, MADD Canada’s National President said, “It is an understatement to say that we need to do something about Canadian youth that are involved in impaired driving crashes. Road crashes are the number one cause of youth fatalities in Canada -- one in eight people who die on Canada’s roads are under the age of 25. It is a disturbing fact that two out of five teens who are killed on the road have been drinking.”
“Friday Night is a striking and sobering reflection that will prompt students to think twice about their own actions as well as looking out for the safety of their friends. Our hope with these productions is that we’ll make an indelible impression on young Canadians – and they will not become an impaired driving statistic.”
Stew Low, Director of Public Relations – General Motors of Canada said, “This year’s production, Friday Night, like past productions, will help with the education of the next generation of drivers about safe and sober driving habits and making the right choices. At GM, we believe in the critical work MADD Canada is doing to educate youth and save lives.”
Mrs. Miller said, “The continued support of GM gives us the chance to show this production to more young Canadians than ever before. They do a remarkable service and we are privileged to be part of their effort. Together we have our sights set on touring these multi-media presentations to even more students this school year.”
In a flood of fast-paced, arresting imagery, MADD Canada’s 2006-2007 multi-media assembly programs feature poignant stories of young people, celebrity interviews, clips from a major motion picture, and a contemporary soundtrack – viewed on three giant screens (final set-up size 15' x 45').

Oshawa, ON, (Tuesday, June 19, 2007) – The revolutionary Chevrolet Volt Concept made its Canadian debut today at the Energy and Environment Conference (EECO) in Toronto. The technologically-advanced and stylish Volt has the potential to virtually eliminate the need for daily commuters to visit a gas station.
“If you are like most Canadians who live and work within a 64 kilometre round trip the Volt is a gas free, emission free car,” says David Paterson, vice president, corporate and environmental affairs, General Motors of Canada. “Drivers will simply unplug and go each morning - much as we do with our cell phones today.”
The Chevrolet Volt Concept electric vehicle can be fully charged by plugging it into a 110-volt outlet for approximately six hours a day. When the lithium-ion battery is fully charged, the Volt can deliver 64 kilometres of pure electric vehicle range. If drivers need to travel more than 64 kilometres, a range extending power source (which creates electricity from gasoline, ethanol, hydrogen or biodiesel fuels) seamlessly kicks in to recharge the lithium ion battery pack when required, for an impressive driving range of more than 1,000 kilometres.
“At GM we believe that tomorrow’s automobile must be flexible to accommodate many different energy sources and choices for consumers, and a key part of that flexibility will be enabled by electrically driven cars” adds Paterson. “With battery contracts in place and a dedicated team of engineers, General Motors is moving to bring the Volt closer to reality.”
The signing of advanced development battery contracts and our announcement to move fuel cell engineers from research and development work to our powertrain and engineering organizations for the E-Flex system are the latest proof points in GM's commitment to providing more green choices for consumers. Today GM offers:

GM Canada Celebrates the Clean Air Foundation’s Gold Award for Climate Change from the Canadian Environmental Awards
Oshawa, Ontario (June 5, 2007) – General Motors of Canada congratulates the Car Heaven program of the Clean Air Foundation and program director, Fatima Dharsee, for winning the Gold Award for Climate Change at the Canadian Environmental Awards last night in Montreal.
“The Canadian Environmental Awards are the premiere environmental awards in Canada and for the Car Heaven program to be recognized is an outstanding achievement,” says Marc Comeau, vice president, sales, service and marketing, General Motors of Canada. “We’re delighted with the success of the Car Heaven program, our partnership with the Clean Air Foundation and its positive impact on the environment.”
The Clean Air Foundation developed the Car Heaven program in 2000 to encourage Canadians to retire their old, higher polluting vehicles and to ensure that these vehicles are recycled in the most environmentally responsible manner possible. In May 2005, GM Canada partnered with the Clean Air Foundation to offer eligible Car Heaven donors $1,000 towards the purchase of a new GM vehicle. This partnership has proven to be a strong and valuable alliance. Participation in Car Heaven has more than tripled and the impact on the environment has been significant.
Through the Car Heaven program, in 2006 alone, more than 16,000 older vehicles were replaced with new GM vehicles. The emissions of these more than 16,000 old vehicles are equal to the emissions of more than 320,000 new vehicles that have new advanced emission technologies. In that same year, the program prevented the release of 8,710 tonnes of carbon monoxide, 2,105 tonnes of smog-forming emissions and 26,910 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
This is the third major recognition the Car Heaven program has received in 2007. Earlier this year, the program received a 2007 Environmental Pyramid Award of Recognition from the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) for “outside the box” thinking that created a program to help significantly reduce the impact of the automobile on the environment. Car Heaven was also recognized in the recent federal budget.
The Canadian Environment Awards: A Celebration of Community Achievement is a national program that recognizes individuals and groups of Canadians who have made outstanding contributions to the protection, restoration and preservation of the Canadian environment.

Pricing Announced for the All-New 2008 Saturn Vue
Compact Crossover Vehicle
Oshawa, Ontario (June 4, 2007) – GM of Canada announced today that the all-new 2008 Saturn Vue, now available at Saturn retailers across Canada, will start at $26,990 for the front-wheel-drive XE model and $31,275 for the all-wheel-drive XE model. In the up-level XR trim, the front-wheel-drive model begins at $31,335, and the all-wheel-drive at $33,920. Additionally, performance orientated Red Line models are available beginning at $36,020 for the front-wheel-drive and $38,605 for the all-wheel-drive model.
The 2008 Vue was designed from the ground up to stand out in the highly competitive compact crossover segment. Boasting a wide array of standard features, the base model 2008 Vue offers much more vehicle than its predecessor and does so with enhanced style, outstanding driving character and a lower price when compared to a similarly equipped 2007 model.
“The 2008 Vue continues the product revitalization at Saturn that has seen four all-new models introduced in the last two years,” said Mike Speranzini, Director of Saturn Canada. “The all-new Vue is a technically sophisticated and refined crossover that is attractive, safe, versatile and great to drive. Given these strengths and the very competitive pricing that make it an excellent value, we expect to attract new customers with the Vue and Saturn’s positive customer experience they can count on at our Saturn retailers.”
The 2008 Vue also features the widest range of powertrain choices in the segment. The XE front-wheel-drive is equipped with the 2.4L Ecotec engine with variable valve timing and mated to a four-speed electronically controlled transmission. All-wheel-drive Vue XE models come equipped with a 3.5L V-6 engine, delivering 222 horsepower and 219 lb.-ft. of torque, offering a broad torque curve with low-end torque for quick acceleration. Vue XR and Vue Red Line models are powered by GM’s sophisticated, 60-degree dual overhead cam 3.6L V-6 engine with variable valve timing that delivers an impressive 257 horsepower and 248 lb.-ft. of torque. In addition, Saturn will stay true to its green roots with the continuation of the Green Line hybrid system on the new Vue model this fall, followed next year with a new front-wheel-drive, V-6 application of GM’s two-mode hybrid technology.
The Vue is designed to deliver excellent ride and handling. At the core of the Vue’s European-inspired driving character is a stiff, steel body-frame integral structure, augmented by model-specific tuning of spring rates and wheel travel. Front and rear stabilizer bars, MacPherson strut independent front suspension and independent multi-link rear suspension, along with a double-isolated engine cradle, add to the smooth, quiet ride. Hydraulic power-assisted steering on V-6 models, standard four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, standard traction control and standard GM StabiliTrak electronic stability control system provide outstanding vehicle control.
In addition to these handling technologies that help drivers avoid crashes, the all-new Vue also helps protect occupants with its high-strength steel structure and a long list of standard crash protection features. Dual-stage front seat air bags, front seat side thorax air bags and rollover capable head curtain air bags covering front and rear rows are standard on all models. Other safety features include front-row dual safety belt pretensioners, disengaging collapsible pedals, active head restraints and automatic door locks. The Vue even features a standard, segment-exclusive electronic Trailer Sway Control feature.
All Vue models come standard with the industry’s best coverage and a suite of owner services, including a three-year/60,000 km vehicle warranty, a five-year/160,000 km powertrain warranty, and OnStar with standard one-year Safe & Sound Plan and available Turn-By-Turn voice-activated navigation.
